Electrocardiogram (ECG)

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is one of the simplest and fastest tests used to evaluate the heart. Electrodes (small, plastic patches that stick to the skin) are placed at certain spots on the chest, arms, and legs. The electrodes are connected to an ECG machine by lead wires.

Echocardiograms (ECHO)

An echocardiogram checks how your heart’s chambers and valves are pumping blood through your heart. Using electrodes to check your heart rhythm and ultrasound tech to see monitor blood movement through your heart. Echos help your doctor diagnose heart conditions.

24-hour Holter Monitoring

A Holter monitor is a small, wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) device that keeps track of the heart rhythm during everyday activities. It’s typically worn for a day or two. A health care provider uses the information captured on the device to help diagnose a heart rhythm problem (arrhythmia).

Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM)

ABPM allows a healthcare provider to assess your blood pressure during your routine daily living, instead of when you are sitting nervously on the healthcare provider’s examination table.

Exercise Stress Tests (Stress ECG)

An exercise stress test is used to determine how well your heart responds during times when it’s working its hardest. During the test, you’ll be asked to exercise — typically on a treadmill — while you’re hooked up to an electrocardiogram (EKG) machine. This allows your doctor to monitor your heart rate.

Stress Echocardiograms
A stress echocardiogram is a test done to assess how well the heart works under stress. The “stress” can be triggered by either exercise on a treadmill or a medicine called dobutamine. A dobutamine stress echocardiogram (DSE) may be used if you are unable to exercise.

Dobutamine Stress Test
A dobutamine stress echocardiogram (DSE) may be used if you are unable to exercise. Dobutamine is put in a vein and causes the heart to beat faster. It mimics the effects of exercise on the heart. During an echo, a transducer (like a microphone) sends out ultrasonic sound waves at a frequency too high to be heard.

General Ultrasound

Ultrasound imaging uses sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. It helps diagnose the causes of pain, swelling and infection in the body’s internal organs. Ultrasound is safe, noninvasive, and does not use radiation.
